Hammer saw a small purple-colored bubble coming towards him. He then saw one of the twins holding a hose – it was already aimed at him.
Hammer could reach only one conclusion – the bubble was the bullet which that stupid mannequin had just fired. He was aghast. He was sure he was going to die. Dumbfounded he kept staring at the bubble for a few seconds. Suddenly it dawned on him that something was different. He had never seen such a slow-moving bullet ever before. It was like it was moving in slow motion.
Either he was wrested with special powers by virtue of being on a weird place or he was just imagining things.
Hammer had heard that humans tended to see things in slow motion just before they were to die. He thought maybe the dogs also had the same evolutionary instincts.
Anyways he still wanted to test the first hypothesis. He sat upright facing the oncoming bubble. He then extended his forelimbs, stared hard at the bubble, and tried to do the bullets-freezing scene from the movie The Matrix. He was trying to imitate Neo from that movie. After five-seconds of hard work, the bubble was still approaching him with the same initial speed.
Hammer then realized he was just an ordinary dog.
He burst out barking at Rick.
‘Now what happened?’ Rick hadn’t turned back yet.
Hammer pointed towards the bubble. Rick also looked back.
He saw two bubbles coming towards them…
They were moving so slowly that anyone could actually outrun them.
The ulterbubble gun was invented by the twins’ father, Matteroy. The gun was supposed to dispense ulterbubbles. Although the ulterbubble technology was invented long time before even Matteroy was born but it was he who had invented the gun.
The notorious thing about the ulterbubble was that it was damn adamant in pursuing the target it was aimed and fired at. So even if the target’s speed was much higher than the ulterbubble, at some point of time in the future it would certainly catch up with the target. Even after all this trouble the ulterbubble was only capable of immobilizing the target - primarily soft targets.
Rick and Hammer at first could not decide how were they supposed to react – and whether this was a real threat also?
Rick decided to wait until the bubble came closer.
Hammer just couldn’t believe his eyes. One crazy mannequin had just fired bubbles at them and still crazier Rick was simply doing nothing.
Hammer’s ulterbubble was only five seconds away from him. Rick’s ulterbubble was only eight seconds away from him.
Rick looked at Hammer.
‘Jupiter, can you tell me why these bubbles are traveling so slowly?’ Rick sounded like a scientist trying to understand the underlying logic behind something.
The ulterbubbles were now only three seconds and six seconds away from Hammer and Rick respectively.
‘I think they are meant for just scaring people’ Rick added in a philosophical tone.
One second and four seconds away!
Hammer was not going to risk his life. He ran as fast as he could.
Seeing Jupiter run Rick also decided to run.
Seeing Jupiter and Rick run, Yitteroy and Zitteroy also started to run.
The situation was like after thirteen-minute of relentless running, all of them had left the ulterbubbles far behind.
In this thirteen-minute sprint Rick and Hammer hadn’t seen back even once. They assumed they were safe now and so thought of taking some rest.
Hammer glanced back panting and saw that those two dummy heads were not very far behind.
Rick also saw them and now realized they were indeed in some danger.
Rick and Hammer started to run again. Soon they both knew they needed a miracle to happen to save them.
